stupid YA reviewers

OMG. There are so many things that piss me off about Y.A books. Some of the comments online about Kristin Cashore's Graceling for example.





One is that if you even mention a dirty word in the whole work, it immediately gets upgraded to an adult book. Geez, kids cuss people. Especially young adults. It's a time when you test limits and cussing is one of the entry ways into that.

The second is that if you even mention sex, even if you don't go into the nitty gritty details but write it in a classy way....it's seen as this dirty unnecessary thing. This pisses me off. Sex happens. To think that you can read a book, a love story at that, and it won't mention sex makes me think you'll die a dried up virgin anyway.

Sex and cursing happens. In the real world. For a work to be believable these are elements that may happen. It's stupid to demonize a work for putting it in there.
