10 YouTube Channels I watch

We haven't had cable in 5 years.

And I haven't missed it.

Nope, not when I have Netflix & YouTube. Believe me, they've filled in the gap nicely.

I love me some YouTube. Yes, YouTube.

YouTube isn't about all things funny, insane, or cat. There's a lot of learning going on, a lot of life sharing, a lot of community. I am subscribed to dozens of channels. Some of these people become like family members. I mean, yeah, they don't know I exist, but these people are precious to me. Without seeing me, they have touched my life in enumerable ways.

Here are the top 10 channels I must watch every week.

1. Tati : I love me some makeup. I do, I do. But some of these girls are straight up frontin' (lol, just watched Thug Notes). Tati isn't like that. I love this chick. She's genuine and funny and she keeps it real. She will buy all kinds of make up and wear it all day and record her day wearing it. I love her videos and her goofy sense of humor. She's my virtual girlfriend and I get really bummed if she hasn't posted a video. She posts M-F, daily videos, which takes commitment, believe me. When I'm having a bad day, sometimes all I need to hear is her greeting of "Hi, guys!" before I can escape for a few minutes.

2. Wisecrack: OMG, this channel is hilarious and educational, especially the series "Thug Notes." So this dude, Sparky Sweets, will recount classic literature in today's street vernacular, and he's not only funny but accurate. What impressed me was the depth of analysis that was done. A lot of English teachers have written to this channel thanking them for inspiring their kids to read these books that he featured. He has inspired me to re-read the books I've forgotten.

3. Wendy's Lookbook: so this channel is about Wendy. She doesn't post often. Well, not her, it's Mystery Man that posts for her. But each of the posts are a work of art. Visual eye candy of fashion and travel. Seriously, they're like movie quality video posts. I love Wendy's sweet nature. I wish I could meet her. And her fashion sense? Girl, is killin' it! She inspired me to look at clothes in a different way. She's like this petite fashionista who loves her some brunch. lol (If you watch her channel, you'll understand why that's so funny).

4. Gigi Gorgeous: Gigi is this amazing, gorgeous person who has gone through a journey of transformation. Earlier videos show her as she was before the metamorphosis she went through. Through her, I was educated about what it means to be transgender person. I don't know everything still, but I understand it a little better now. I'll be frank and tell you that I cried when I saw the painful surgeries she went through. To attain the physical truth of who she was underneath, my girl went through electrolysis, tracheal shave, hormone replacement, facial surgery, and breast augmentation. She is very brave and has endured a lot to become who she is. I'm really protective of her. Also her product reviews are bust-a-gut funny.

5. communitychannel: Nat is this Australian chick who, I swear, feels like a sister I should have had. She brings up the thoughts that I've thought about. Random shit like what the weather should be like, when someone opens the door and lets the draft in, or when you're trying to stop yourself from snacking. Her self-deprecation is appreciated, as is her awareness and acknowledgement that her problems are truly first world. I hope she knows what kind of joy she spreads.

6. Lisa Eldridge: I could listen to this woman read the dictionary. Her British accent makes everything sound smart. I've learned the art of make up through her. There are lots of beauty guru channels, but this channel is different. She doesn't pile it on. She uses a very light hand. And her skills can't be denied, because I've seen the small amount of product she uses and the before and after pics are out of this world. Her level of talent is enviable and I'm so appreciative that she shares her knowledge with me.

7. Sarah Rae Vargas: This woman helps me with my body image issues. She is this voluptuous mother of 2. And she has a series called "Dear Fat Girl" that goes through the trial and tribulations of what fat girls go through. She has helped me become more confident and become a giver of no damns. The kind of energy she is spreading is so good for young girls. Her information is accurate and I really appreciate her candidness.

8. WatchMojo: I love me some Top 10 lists. I think it's the perfect length of number for my attention span. And they cover all range of topics. What's odd is that I often agree with the order of their lists.

9. Beyond the Trailer: I love Grace. She will tell it like it is. You can tell that she has a deep love for movies. She will review trailers and movies. Her enthusiasm is palpable through my computer screen. And if the movie is bad? Yeah, that's even better. She will tell you where the movie makers screwed up. Through her, I've saved a lot of time and money on skipping awful movies.

10. School of Life: Want to learn about philosophy? I do. I like short little nuggets I can chew on. Through this channel I've learned about Camus and Wittgenstein. I like their Curriculum Part 1, Curriculum Part 2 and Self playlists. I feel like I've given my brain something healthy to ponder when I watch them.

Okay, that should get you started. I'm still discovering other channels myself. Every week I find new ones that delight me. You could get lost in YouTube. There are literally hundreds of interesting people to watch. I might do another list in the future for other YouTubers you might want to check out.
