Hi, I need to stretch these writing muscles and writing a blog post seems to do the trick. I haven't written in 2 days and before the fear paralyzes me, I gotta write something, hell, anything down.
Let's talk about one of my favorite things: YouTube.
A little over a year ago, I posted a blog post title 10 YouTube Channels I watch. The list has changed, so let me update you on some other channels you should check out.
1. The Trinity.
Technically, these are 3 separate YouTubers. They're some of the funniest and smartest girls on the web: Grace, Mamrie, and Hannah. Grace will make you feel less awkward, Mamrie will get you drunk, and Hannah will have you saying, "I love you, guys."
I often wish they were my real life girlfriends. As it is, I can only watch and laugh at their crazy antics. Especially when you throw Tyler Oakley or Miranda Sings in the mix.
2. Kathleen Lights. She's my new makeup girl. I love her. She's adorable and soooo pretty. I love the gag reel at the end of her videos. I think she's genuinely genuine and I think that really comes across in her videos. I bought ColorPop eyeshadows cause of her and I'm so glad I did. Now you can see me blink from space.
3. Blogilates. Cassie is this super peppy and health positive chick who will get your body toned. She has these short 10 minute pilate exercises that you can do. I mean, she takes the time to tailor it for beginners. She's fantastic. She also has great recipes. Her channel's frequent reminder about loving yourself and your body is desperately needed right now. I am sooo glad she left medical school and followed her dreams.
4. StoryCorps. This is a lovely channel. These people tell their life story (well, not their whole life, just a part of it), and it gets animated and it gets put in the library of Congress. StoryCorps is trying to get everyone in the country to tell their story, especially really older people who may pass away soon. Some of the stories are sweet, others heartbreaking. But I'm always left with this sense of wow. There's this huge body of knowledge right in front of us and we don't use it and that's a shame because they know soooo much.
5. SoulPancake. I get sad a lot. I can't watch the news anymore because I'll spiral into despair the rest of the week. And the things happening in the world now: the frequent mass shootings, the ignorant hate towards different people, the greedy disregard of Earth's dwindling resources, the abuse of animals, the allowed rape culture, the ignored rights of women....damn, I'm getting upset again. Okay, so back to what I was saying. Yes, me, sad, all the time. This channel helps. It talks about good things like happiness and love and being kind. Sometimes I have to watch and rewatch the videos to remind myself that the world is not all bad. That love and hope still live in this planet of ours. I have to hope. It feels like greed and stupidity keep winning.
6. AgentXPQ It's this drawn comic story teller's channel. The topics are all different but they explore this man's mind as he explores all kinds of thoughts from procrastination to depression to his father dying.
7. ASAPScience. I'm a nerd and I miss science class. Like a lot. I get so happy to try experiments at home ...with superglue.
Anways, yeah. These little bite sized science lessons are perfect for me. They ask the crazy questions I wonder about. Things like: Is makeup bad for you? or Should you shave your pubes? or The science of boobs. And, I'm so glad for the colorful drawings. For a visual learner like me, they help keep me engaged.
8. Comedy Central. We don't have cable. We cut the cord...God, I don't know...7 or 8 years ago? Yeah, we are totally web entertained. But I do miss certain channels, Comedy Central being one. I have watched this Key & Peele over twenty times and still crack up when I see it. Oh, or this one. No, wait. This one. Oh, and Amy Schumer skits are here too. She has lots of famous ones she's done but I like Princess Amy most. Many an afternoon supposed to be spent writing has been paid here.
9. ERB ERB stands for Epic Rap Battles...of History. They take famous figures like Ghandi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and have them battle it out...through rap. It's pretty genius and you can tell they have done their research. It's not always historical figures, sometimes it's fictional versus real figures like TMNT versus Renaissance artists. It'll make you laugh and go, "Oh, no he didn't!"
10. iiSuperwomanii. I'm really proud of Lilly Singh. She's a Punjabi comedian who made a name for herself one YouTube video at a time. It's so hard to be a comedian but the road is even harder if you're a girl. I see her and she works so damn hard. I've watched her videos consistently for years. I hope she keeps herself grounded and humble now that she's moved to L.A.
Okay, that's plenty to keep you busy. I hope you explore these links and find something you like.
I need to actually do some real writing work now. Can I just vent real quick? You can stop reading here if you want.
WAAHHHHHHH.
This is so hard. I don't know how I'm going to organize all these words. I have a synopsis but I have to go and find each one of those chapter thingies and order it and then, ohmigod, and THEN I have to edit. EDIT! Me. Fuck. I don't wanna edit. Editing is where the real work is. I'm tired. Can't I stop now?
No. You're not stopping. Keep going. You're doing great. Don't get distracted. Eye on the prize, girl. Finish something in your life.
