A blogger is getting 1,000 lashes for having a voice.
I feel so many different things after I heard about this. Here are the gamut of emotions.
Anger.
Because humans do this kind of shit to each other. That's why I'm so wary of all religion. No one legit ly has the answers. No one. But everyone thinks they do. And if you poke holes in that kind of thinking, they lash out like this. Your religion should be strong enough to handle criticism.
Sadness.
Again, because humans do this kind of shit to each other. Other animals don't do this. We are better than this. Why would you inflict harm to someone over an idea? Why?
Fear.
Because if this is what they do to someone with an idea, what do they do to people who actually act on those ideas? He was writing down words on a blog. How does that harm your religion?
Worry.
I saw the clip. It wasn't as brutal as I thought it would be. But still. A 1000 of anything isn't going to be pleasant. I hope that man is alright. Cuz after he gets those, he has 10 years then like half a million in fines to pay. Just for an idea. Again. This is crazy.
In one way, it's making me realize that blogs matter. I mean, he had a blog. That was it. He didn't knock on people's doors or anything. People chose to read what he was writing and that was enough for him to be a threat.
It's not blogs, per say. It's your voice. Your voice matters. Yes, it sucks what's happening to him but in a way, he wins. He beat them. He got them to be so scared over some words he wrote online that they felt threatened and captured him and imprisoned him. It only puts their religion in a bad light.
Again, one of the many reasons I do not trust religion in any form.
